Notice of Property Tax Increase
The City of Rossville has tentatively adopted a millage rate which will require an increase in property taxes of
2.55 percent.
All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearing on this tax increase to be held at Rossville Courtroom,
500 McFarland Ave, Rossville, GA 30741 on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. and Wednesday
August 31, 2016 at 6:00 P.M.
Times and places of additional public hearings on this tax increase are at Rossville Courtroom on
Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at 6:30 p.m.
This tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 9.035 mills, an increase of 0.225 mills over the rollback
rate, but no actual millage rate increase from last year.  Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate
would be no more than the rollback rate of 8.810 mills.  The proposed tax increase for a home with fair market
value of $100,000 is approximately $9.00.
The City of Rossville 2016-2017 budget proposes to use the SAME millage rate (9.035) as last year.
This means that the same tax rate that has been used for the last ten years is being used in the upcoming
budget.

Because of the recent reevaluation of property some property has increased in value and some property has
declined in value. This reevaluation is the reason that the city must report a property tax increase (required
by State law) even though the budget is using the same tax rate that has been used for the past ten years.

The bottom line is how did the Tax Assessor reevaluate your property? If the Tax Assessor increased the
value of your property you will see a tax increase unless you appeal and get a reduction in your property
value. If the Tax Assessor decreased the value of your property you will see a tax decrease.

If a resident believes their current assessment is incorrect they can contact the Tax Assessors office at 706
638 4823 to request an appeal.
